So I fell off the path of virtue and didn't meet my goals. In fact, I gained about five pounds and stagnated. So, I'm off to a new start. We, my wife and I, are going back on the Sonoma Diet. It is a great plan full of delicious recipes that are well balanced meals. It also promotes portion control.
I know it works if you follow it. I've used it successfully to lose weight in the past. But, like anything else, you have to do it. We started a week ago and followed it for a week. I lost seven pounds and felt so much better because we were eating well. The meals are like going out to a gourmet restaurant. It helps to have a wife who is an excellent cook. But, if you follow the recipes in the book or online, you can create these meals easily.
A nice thing about them, too, is that they require you to shop often for fresh food. It eliminates the processed food from your diet. You have much more control over the amount of sugars and salt you take in. Also, fresh food tastes so much better. Its fun, too, to explore farmer's markets and local producers. The locovore movement is really building, which we celebrate when we can. We bought a side of beef two years in a row from a local farmer. He raises grass fed beef, and adds just enough grain to their diet to keep the meat tasty.
Anyway, adding to this, I'm going to go back to kettle bell and free weight training. The kettle bell adds the aerobic dynamic to the work out and really helps the whole body. I'll start out with swings, snatches, jerks, rowing, squats (sometimes with power press on the way up) and maybe some dead lifts. On the free weights, I am doing the overhead press and bench press.
Generally, we are trying to be more active. We try to do more yard work and work around the house. I'm going bow hunting a little more for an excuse to wander through the woods. We're going to start adding more walks with the dogs.
Hopefully, we can meet our goals of weight loss, improved health and vigor, and an overall, permanent change in lifestyle. Wish us well!
Bob
